ZAGREB, Nov 29 (Hina) - Judges and the President of the
Constitutional Courts whose terms of office expire in December,
held a party on Monday to thank journalists who covered their work
and activities of the Constitutional Court in the past period.
Thanking reporters for good cooperation, the Court's President
Jadranko Crnic said this court would not be what it is today without
those reporters, as by their writing, they contributed to the
efforts of the Court to become closer to the ideal - the rule of law
as the highest Constitutional value.
Reporters informed the public of what and how the Constitutional
Court was deciding on. They wrote about rulings of Constitutional
judges of which they are particularly proud, Crnic told at the
party.
It was not easy, this composition of the Court began working in the
war, at times when the law was considerably disrespected, but even
then we tried to protect law as much as possible, Crnic added.
We have had the honour to be an important factor in the system of the
law-based state, we have worked according to our conscience and
knowledge and history will give a final assessment of our work,
Crnic told reporters.
On behalf of reporters, a journalist with "Slobodna Dalmacija",
Josip Smidt, expressed gratitude to judges who enabled them to
cover directly the Court's work.
The Court's Vice President Nikola Filipovic said they had
cooperated very well with almost all European Constitutional
Courts and particularly with Canadian.
Filipovic added that all constitutional judges in Croatia did not
always share the same opinion but their common aim was to contribute
to the protection of civilisation values and human rights.
