ZAGREB, Nov 27 (Hina) - Forty-four sessions, almost 500 laws
passed, several hundred decisions adopted, a number of adopted
declarations, resolutions, conclusions, programmes are the result
of the work of the third Croatian National Parliament House of
Representatives whose mandate expires at midnight tonight.
The mandate of the Lower House, constituted on November 28, 1995,
expires in line with the Constitution which stipulates that MPs are
chosen into the houses of the Croatian National Parliament on a
four-year mandate.
During their four years of work, MPs discussed more than 1,150 acts
and adopted more than 970.
Elected in a peaceful time, after Croatian military and police
operations "Flash" and "Storm" in which occupied Croatian
territories were liberated, the House of Representatives, with a
number of adopted decisions, contributed to the completion of the
peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area (January 15,
1998), thus enabling Croatia's sovereignty on its entire
territory.
In the past four years the Lower House passed a number of
exceptionally important laws, including those that rounded up the
pension, tax, justice system reform...etc.
On April 19, 1996, the House adopted one of three important
constitutional laws, the one on Croatia's cooperation with the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
The last law adopted by the Lower House was the Constitutional Law
on the Temporary Disability of the President of the Republic to
Perform his Duties.
At this week's, last session, the House passed a decision by which
the president and vice-presidents of the Parliament would continue
performing their duties until a new House of Representatives is
constituted.
The Lower House will be elected at the upcoming, fourth multi-party
elections scheduled for January 3, 2000.
