ZAGREB, Oct 26 (Hina) - The United States Government believes that a
demarche, which is going to be presented to Croatia by the European
Union, represents one more step in a dialogue on Croatia's
democratisation and its integration to Euro-Atlantic
institutions.
Even though it will not participate in the presentation, the United
States supports the dialogue, the United States Embassy in Croatia
reported in Zagreb Tuesday.
The European Union delegation, headed by Secretary of State in the
Finnish Foreign Ministry Jukka Valtasaari, on Tuesday will present
vice president of the Croatian National Sabor with the letter of
protest regarding the electoral law. The delegation will present
Croatian Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa with the letter of protest
regarding Croatia's cooperation with the International Criminal
tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on Wednesday.
The European Union is not satisfied with the draft of a new
electoral law which is to be discussed by the Croatian Government on
October 28, nor with Croatia's cooperation with the ICTY regarding
ICTY's jurisdiction in operation of "Storm" and "Flash", which
liberated a part of the Croatian territory from the Serb
occupation.
The United States Embassy said in its statement that the demarche
was a part of international community's dialogue, in which the
international community had taken numerous steps to make its views
known to the Croatian Government regarding various issues
essential to Croatia's democratic evolution and successful
integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions.
On Monday it was announced that representatives of the United
States and the Organisation for the Security and Cooperation in
Europe were also to be a part of the delegation along with
representatives of the European Union.
