SARAJEVO, Oct 6 (Hina) - The Bosnian Federation Supreme Court
refused to extradite Islamite terrorist Khalil Yaraj to Italy with
the explanation that he was a citizen of Bosnia-Herzegovina,
Sarajevo's daily "Dnevni avaz" said Wednesday.
The federal Supreme Court deliberated on the extradition request of
this Tunisian accused by Italian police of having had prepared
terrorist attacks during last year's soccer championship in
France.
A member of his group was Mehrez Amdouni, also a naturalised citizen
of BH, who was arrested in Istanbul on September 9 by Turkish police
based on an arrest warrant issued by the Italian Interpol
department.
Yaraj is held to be one of the most important people in the Algerian
terrorist organisation GIA.
Yaraj has been imprisoned in a jail in Sarajevo since June 6 of this
year. He was arrested in the Hadzici suburb by Italian and local
police.
Deputy to the Sarajevo canton Court president, Davorin Jukic, said
after refusing the extradition request, the Italian judiciary
could be expected to submit evidence so that a trial could be held in
BH.
The deadline for forwarding the documents is November 6 and should
the local prosecution fail to initiate an investigation, it is
possible Yaraj will be released.
