ZAGREB, Sept 29 (Hina) - Opposition parliamentary benches at the
House of Representatives on Wednesday said the Parliament should
have been informed about the reasons for the replacement of the
former Minister of Maritime Affairs, Communications, and Transport
before Ivan Pavlovic was appointed the new minister.
The Sabor should also have been informed about the solutions the new
minister offers for the situation Croatian ports and shipping
agencies are faced with.
The majority of Opposition representatives therefore announced
that they would vote against the new minister.
Pavlovic, however, received the support of Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) representatives, who described him as a proven
successful businessman and a man whose results proved that he would
be able to run the sector he was entrusted with.
Djurdja Adlesic of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS)
believes the appointment of Pavlovic is only of technical nature,
and the HSLS will therefore not vote for him.
Matesa's government has been unstable from the very beginning, said
Damir Kajin of the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS), adding it
changed more than 20 ministers in the past several years. Pavlovic
is not acceptable as the new minister because he had not presented a
programme for resolving the disastrous situation in Croatian ports
and shipping agencies, Kajin added.
Mato Arlovic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) also said his
party would not support Pavlovic because of the unclear
circumstances under which the former minister Zeljko Luzavec was
relieved of his duties.
Luka Trconic of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) also believes
one should shed light on the circumstances of Luzavec's
replacement.
Pavlovic is a respectable businessman and if he knew how to run the
port of Ploce in difficult conditions, I believe he will be able to
run the sector he is entrusted with, said HDZ's Franjo Greguric,
giving support to the new minister.
Opposition MPs warned about the situation in the port of Rijeka,
objecting to the measures the new minister has taken in that regard.
HDZ's Luka Bebic, however, believes the local authorities, run by
the SDP, are responsible for the situation in the port.
