on Wednesday introduced to the Croatian National Parliament the
newly-appointed Minister of Maritime Affairs, Communications, and
Transport, Ivan Pavlovic.
In discussing candidates for the new minister of maritime affairs,
communications and transport, we tried to find a person whose
professional knowledge and abilities would be a guarantee for
solving problems in the sector the new minister would be entrusted
with. We established that at the moment the most critical segment of
that sector was the work of ports and shipping agencies whereas
other segments were in a much better position. Ivan Pavlovic is
familiar exactly with those segments, and it is those segments
where he achieved the best results, Matesa said.
Matesa said part of the shipping agencies worked regularly while
part faced problems, however, the state was trying to help them.
This will also be the task of Minister Pavlovic, including the
establishment of a fleet for domestic shipping agencies and the
resolution of the situation in Croatian ports.
Matesa said Pavlovic had graduated from the Maritime Faculty, spent
quite some time at sea. Pavlovic is familiar with the problems of
shipping agencies and he had successfully ran the port of Ploce for
years.
Before Pavlovic, the office of the Minister of Maritime Affairs,
Communications, and Transport was held by Zeljko Luzavec.
In today's continuation of its 42nd session, the House of
Representatives should debate 13 items, including a report on the
execution of the state budget in the first six months of 1999.
