supermarkets is to amount to almost 76million German marks. Of that amount, 60.8 million is to be ensured through foreign loans backed by a government guarantee issued in July. The remaining 15 million will be contributed from Agrokor's own resources. The four new supermarkets are to be built in Split, Rijeka, Varazdin and Zagreb. Agrokor's officials explained that an international call for tenders has been made for the construction of a distribution centre. The good-distribution centre will be the first of its kind here in

The centre's primary function will be to supply the Konzum chain of
supermarkets as well as other retail stores within an area of 100 km
of Zagreb.
Some 1 thousand people could be employed in the centre of whom 400
would be former employees from the Zvijezda oil factory who have
become redundant.
Last year the Agrokor conglomerate achieved a profit of 248 million
kunas which was 13.2 per cent more than for the previous year.
Agrokor's total income surpassed three billion kunas.
