Matesa said there was no reason to proclaim the state of natural
disaster, as had been announced, given that the fires had been put
under control in the morning hours, thanks to the joint efforts of
numerous fire-fighting units, four canadair planes, and several
helicopters of the Croatian Air Force.
The damage done must be established, the Premier said, adding the
government would respond with appropriate measures.
Matesa said he believes more canadair planes should be stationed in
Split in the hot summer days to ensure faster intervention
throughout the Dalmatia area.
