PRISTINA, July 30 (Hina) - The Kosovo Liberation Army Main Staff
Commander, Agim Qeku, on Wednesday said in an interview for
"Kosovapress" news agency that the first phase of an agreement on
demilitarisation and transformation of the KLA had been
successfully completed.
According to him, the KLA should become an army for all Kosovo
citizens.
The KLA fulfilled its obligations from the Agreement, also signed
by the Kosovo Force (KFOR), and cooperated with the international
community. KFOR commander Michael Jackson expressed satisfaction
with the implementation of the first phase of demilitarisation,
Qeku said.
The KLA demilitarisation includes disarmament, said Qeki adding
that was a normal process in post-war conditions.
The KLA will continue to form Kosovo's army, Qeku said.
Qeku called on the Serb and other minorities in Kosovo to support
the Kosovo Interim Government, and to recognise the KLA as their own
Army, which would be able to protect all Kosovo citizens.
According to Qeku, the KLA desires to form an army similar to the
United States National Guard which will not jeopardise the
integrity of another state. The KLA commander asked for help of the
KFOR and the international community.
Commenting on the killing of 14 Serbs from Kosovo's village of Staro
Gracko, Qeku said that the incident did not contribute to the
creation of peace and new democratic order. The Commander once
again denied KLA's responsibility for the crime.
