SPLIT PORT SPLIT, July 29 (Hina) - The U.S. destroyer "Peterson" entered the port of Split on Thursday morning. The destroyer's crew is visiting this southern Croatian seatown for a few days. The commander of Peterson, John Vilson,
and U.S. naval envoy to Croatia, Peter Smith, were received by the Croatian Navy's commander, Vice Admiral Vid Stipetic, and the host of American marines, Tihomir Erceg. Stipetic and Erceg informed guests about the organisation and development of Croatia's Navy, its peacetime tasks and education of its members. Croatians and Americans also considered the exchange of experience and establishment of stronger friendly ties. Local authorities also are to receive the American guests. U.S. marines and officers will go sightseeing in Split and its surroundings and play a soccer match against a team of the Croatian Navy.
