WASHINGTON, July 16 (Hina) - The US government on Friday welcomed the decision of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) refusing an appeal by Bosnian Serb Dusan Tadic. The State Department said in a
statement it agreed with the ICTY's assessment on war crimes committed by Tadic during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Hague-based tribunal in 1997 sentenced Tadic for the murder of two people and torture of dozens of Bosniaks and Croats. State Department spokesman James Rubin said the ICTY's decision reflected the American stand that the conflict in Bosnia was an international conflict during which the civilian population had the right to protection as envisaged by international humanitarian law.(hina) rml
