Rehn told Monday's farewell news conference that the UN Secretary
General Kofi Annan would give an official announcement on the
matter in the course of the day.
She described Klein as a diplomat with a great experience in the
area of the former Yugoslavia who will successfully carry out new
tasks.
The Finish diplomat said the UN had done much in Bosnia in the last
two years, primarily in attempts to establish professional local
police forces. She warned, however, that Bosnian policemen were
still exposed to too much influence of political structures and
this had to be changed.
She added that urgent measures must be taken to improve the judicial
system in Bosnia which was currently bad end susceptible to
corruption.
More attention must be devoted to the struggle against organised
crime and prostitution which has assumed big proportions, Rehn
stressed.
