SARAJEVO/BANJA LUKA, July 6 (Hina) - Representatives of the
authority in the Bosnian Serb entity of the Republika Srpska on
Tuesday expressed a concern about the arrest of Bosnian Serb
Radoslav Brdjanin, a war crime suspect who was taken in by members
of the NATO led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina
earlier today.
Vice President of the Republika Srpska Mirko Sarovic said it was
about time to stop conducting arrests based on secret indictments.
Sarovic said that Brdjanin was arrested in a bizzare way in his
apartment "in front of flabbergasted members of his family and
neighbours", the Banja Luka electronic media reported.
Sarovic claims that Brdjanin was taken in by persons in civilian
clothes in vehicles bearing "non-existing" registration plates.
The Serbian People's Alliance (SNS), headed by Biljana Plavsis,
protested the arrest, and stressed that Brdjanin was protected by
parliamentary immunity.
Brdjanin was one of the closest associates of Radovan Karadjic. He
was in charge of the most responsible duties in Banja Luka at the
time when mass persecutions of non-Serb population had been
conducted in that part of the country, including the establishment
of concentration camps in which a large number of Croats and
Bosniaks had been tortured and killed.
Brdjanin was held responsible for the destruction of all mosques in
Banja Luka.
