Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission
to Croatia.
According to the Justice Ministry, the head of the OSCE Mission said
that statements on the Mission's alleged concern about the alleged
influence of the minister of justice on the course of the trial of
the "Sodolovci Group", as quoted by "Nacional" weekly, do not
reflect the Mission's official stand and are not contained in the
weekly reports the Mission forwards to OSCE headquarters in
Vienna.
In its issue of June 9, 1999, "Nacional" states the OSCE has been
shocked at the severe sentences against the members of the
Sodolovci group, and that in its internal report the OSCE has
accused the justice minister of influencing the court and
requesting that the case be forwarded to the International Criminal
Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague.
The Sodolovci group was accused of attacking villages and the town
of Djakovo, eastern Croatia, with missiles from occupied Croatian
territory.
The Justice Ministry statement further says Minister Zvonimir
Separovic today received the newly appointed head of the OSCE
Mission to Croatia, Michael G. Wygant, at the latter's request.
During talks, both parties expressed mutual satisfaction with the
good cooperation between the Justice Ministry and the OSCE Mission
to Croatia, the statement concluded.
