SARAJEVO, July 5 (Hina) - Bosnia-Herzegovina's Presidency on
Monday appointed the main committee for preparations of the first
summit of the Stability Pact in South-eastern Europe.
The summit is to take place in Sarajevo, and the special executive
committee was also set up in the Bosnian capital.
The three-man Bosnian Presidency on Monday held a special session
to discuss only this issue and to appoint its chairman Ante Jelavic
as the head of the main committee and Haris Silajdzic, who is the co-
chairman of the Bosnian ministerial council, as the head of the
executive committee.
Jelavic's aide, Tihomir Begic, told reporters that all other high-
ranking officials would be included in bodies and eight sub-
committees in charge of the preparations of the Stability Pact
summit.
"The meeting will be held in Sarajevo, and a final decision on the
date is expected to be announced at the beginning of next week,"
Begic said.
This event should gather about a thirty world prominent politicians
and statesmen and heads of state of south-east European countries.
U.S. and Russian Presidents Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltzin and
leaders of EU member-states have also announced their
participation.
German diplomat Michael Steiner who toured Sarajevo last week, said
the meeting would be probably held in the Olympic hall "Zetra".
The chief commander of NATO in Europe, General Wesley Clarks, was
due to come in Sarajevo on Monday and discuss security preparations
for the summit with the Bosnian Presidency and international
peacekeepers' (SFOR) commander. But the visit was cancelled
without any explanation. According to unofficial reports, Gen.
Clark did not come as it was still unknown when the summit should be
held.
To organise such an event is a complex task, so that instead of 30
July, for when it was announced previously, the meeting may be held
in September of October.
One of the problems is the small capacity of the Sarajevo airport
which cannot receive more than five aircraft in one hour. That's why
participants in the summit will have to use also airports in Mostar,
Tuzla and perhaps in Banja Luka.
