ZAGREB, April 28 (Hina) - The Croatian Interior Ministry (MUP)
resolutely dismisses the unfounded claims published by the press
about the motives for the attack on Ivan Tolic, a vice president of
the Croatian Railways Engine Drivers' Union.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry said that
publishing claims without any evidence to support it and
implicating the ministry was ill-intentioned petty politics.
Such statements and headlines only hampered the ongoing criminal
proceedings and search for the perpetrators of this grave criminal
act, the Ministry said.
On several occasions, the police have carried out thorough
interviews with Ivan Tolic, during which Tolic pointed to possible
motives for the attack. This was used as the starting point in the
criminal proceedings, which are a priority for the Zagreb police
crime department.
Some of the press connected Monday's attack on Tolic with earlier
attacks on union officials, again failing to support their claims
with evidence, the ministry said, adding the police had no
information whatsoever on the attacks.
