ZAGREB, April 20 (Hina) - The Croatian Defence Ministry on Tuesday
evening issued a statement saying members of the military police
and army of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the size of two
companies, on Tuesday made an incursion into a demilitarised zone
under United Nations' control close to the border with the Republic
of Croatia.
The Croatian Armed Forces are monitoring the situation and taking
necessary measures of protection against a potential threat to the
Croatian state territory, the statement said.
Over the past few days, leaflets have appeared in the area of Boka
Kotorska, calling on local Croats to cooperate with NATO in its
attacks on Montenegro and to annex the area to Croatia.
"Obviously the content of these leaflets, among other things, is
aimed at creating unrest among the residents of Boka Kotorska to the
effect of the emigration of Croats from the area and the creation of
an ethnically cleansed area", said the statement signed by
assistant minister, Major General Ivan Tolj.
Asked by Croatian Television (HTV) to comment on the leaflets,
Kotor Bishop Ilija Janjic said he hoped "they will not cause unrest
among the people, because such leaflets appeared several years ago
and we know they were not written or distributed by the members of
the Croat people living in Boka Kotorska, nor by the faithful. I
think the leaflets were written by somebody who wants unrest. The
Church has always been the promoter of peace, not unrest", the
Bishop said.
