ZAGREB, April 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Interior Ministry on Tuesday
issued a statement on an incident which occurred in Beli Manastir,
eastern Croatia, on April 9.
According to the statement, at 11.05 pm, a fight between two groups
of young people occurred in the Dzemal Bijedic street in Beli
Manastir.
The police then published the initials and the date of birth of five
persons from one and another five persons from the other group,
adding they were all Croatian citizens.
Members of the police station in Beli Manastir afterwards
discovered all participants in the fight and took them to the
station "where they were interrogated".
"R.M. was taken to a health station in Beli Manastir, where he asked
for medical help and where a doctor on duty decided that he had light
injuries", the statement read.
The initials stand for Roman Majcenic, for whom a group of Homeland
War volunteers from Beli Manastir claimed in a letter to Interior
Minister Ivan Penic that he was in the intensive care unit because
he had sustained serious injuries to his head.
The MUP statement said that "on Saturday, April 10, R.M. was
admitted to Osijek hospital, where it was established that he had
serious injuries". After this report, Beli Manastir police
discovered and detained the person suspected of inflicting severe
injuries on Majcenic.
Summons will be issued to all involved in the fight, and criminal
charges will be pressed against the person suspected of having
inflicted serious injuries on Majcenic.
Regarding the letter by Homeland War veterans to Interior Minister
Ivan Penic, demanding that Beli Manastir police superintendent be
suspended, the MUP said "the Interior Minister has ordered the
MUP's Office for Internal Control to investigate the conduct of the
police in this case".
