PRISTINA, March 8 (Hina) - The Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) chief
headquarters should decide on Monday whether they will accept a
draft peace plan, proposed by the international community at the
last month's conference in Rambouillete.
US mediator in the Kosovo negotiations, Christopher Hill, is to
hold talks today with the KLA leadership.
German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer and the European Union
Foreign Affairs Commissioner Hans Van den Brooek are also expected
to hold talks in Belgrade and Pristina on this matter on Monday.
Ahead of the KLA headquarters' discussion of the peace agreement, a
KLA political representative, Sokol Bashota, told the Pristina-
based "Kosova Sot" daily that the KLA would sign only such agreement
which can guarantee the expression of the free will of the people
after a three-year transitional period and the implementation of
which will be enforced by NATO.
The tension has been mounting in this troubled province while the
diplomatic efforts has been intensified.
According to the Albanian sources, Serbian forces attacked 12
villages and the KLA positions in the area of Podujevo.
In the wake of Sunday's killing of two policemen and wounding of
another, the Emshir neighbourhood of Pristina, where the incident
had happened, was almost completely vacated overnight. Residents
left the area fearing revenge by police that had already taken
severe measures. The Serbian police arrested several people and
beat at least 15 ethnic Albanians in the presence of the OSCE
(Organisation For Security and Cooperation in Europe) verifiers in
that part of the Pristina yesterday.
