EXHIBITION OF WAR PHOTOS FROM KARLOVAC OPENED IN SPLIT

SPLIT, March 7 (Hina) - An exhibition of war photos from the Karlovac area, taken by Dubravko Halovanic, was staged and the promotion of the book "A Heart for Freedom" by a Karlovac reporter, Zejka Pulez, was held in Split on Saturday night. The exhibition called "Churches at the Battle-Line" shows how much damage was done to churches and other sacred places in the Karlovac area (some 50 kilometres south of Zagreb) during the aggression against Croatia. The photos, taken by a former local commander Halovanic, bear witness to the damage or demolition of almost 40 churches in the area, including the destruction of a chapel of St. Peter and Paul built in 16th century and a chapel dating from 13th century. This show has so far drawn about 45,000 visitors in Croatia and Italy. The book by Zeljka Pulez is a journalistic account of the five-year- long war in Karlovac, and is dedicated to the Karlovac brigade. This event in the Split multimedia centre has been organised by the Split and Karlovac branches of "Croatian Woman" to commemorate the 6th anniversary of the death of a Croatian solider, Ivan Culo, who fight in the battlefields of Split and Karlovac during the Homeland War.
