ZAGREB, Feb 13 (Hina) - The cultural cooperation between Croatia
and Turkey has been very fruitful for the past two year, Croatian
Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic told Hina on Saturday.
Croatian cultural workers, headed by Biskupic, toured Turkey as
part of a Croatian senior delegation, led by President Franjo
Tudjman on the state visit to Ankara from 10 to 12 February.
Apart from the summit meeting between Tudjman and his Turkish
counterpart Suleyman Demirel, talks were held by Culture Ministers
of Turkey and Croatia, Istemian Talay and Biskupic, on the
implementation of the bilateral treaty on the cultural
cooperation, signed two years ago. The two ministers voiced
satisfaction with the promotion of culture of their peoples and
assessed that it would be necessary to continue the close
cooperation in this field in 1999 as well.
The Croatian delegation proposed that the Museum of Anadolian
Civilisation should stage an exhibition in Croatia this year.
Croatia would organise, in this friendly country, an
archaeological show of exhibits from the Narona site, Biskupic
said.
Another exhibition to be organised by the Turkish side may be a show
of the treasure from the Istanbul-based Top Kapi Museum, prepared
for the marking of 700th anniversary of the Ottoman Empire, he said
adding that preparations for staging this exhibition in Versailles
are under way.
A part of the agreement on the cooperation in theatre and music
programmes was fulfilled last year when Turkish ballet dancers gave
a successful performance at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The
Zagreb-based Croatian National Theatre ballet dancers are expected
to participate in the Summer Festival in Aspezas this year.
In Ankara, the two ministers discussed the exchange of the national
archives experts.
In 1998, works of a famous Croatian naive artist, Ivan Lackovic,
were put on display in Turkey. An exhibition of the modern Croatian
graphics has been staged in Ankara and Izmir and is still on tour to
Turkey.
Last year saw successful performances of the Croatian quarter of
saxophone players in Ankara, the Zagreb Jazz Band, the Zagreb Trio
and the Rijeka Puppet Theatre. At the end of 1998 works of Nikola
Koydl were put on display in Istanbul.
An exhibition of Croatian artist Nives Kavuric Kurtovic was opened
and registered high attendance during the latest state
delegation's visit to Turkey, Biskupic said.
The cultural exchange was crowned with a superb performance of the
Carmen opera featuring Croatian artists - eminent opera singer Ruza
Pospis-Baldani, maestro Ivo Lipanovic and promising soprano Zeljka
Martic - in the overcrowded opera hall in the Turkish capital.
Turkish officials described that event as one of the best
perfomances of Bizet's opera given by foreign artists in Ankara,
the Croatian Culture Minister concluded.
