ANKARA UNIVERSITY ANKARA, Feb 11 (Hina) - An honorary doctoral degree was conferred on Croatian President Franjo Tudjman by the University of Ankara on Thursday for Tudjman's scholarly work in the field of history, philosophy and
international relations. Tudjman was awarded the honorary degree also for his efforts aimed at the development of political and cultural relations between Croatia and Turkey as well as for his contribution to the international peace. The University of Ankara, established by Kemal Ataturk, is the second biggest university in Turkey according to the number of professors. It is co-operating with about 60 universities all over the world including Zagreb University. President Tudjman has been on a state visit to Turkey since Wednesday. ANKARA, Feb 11 (Hina) - An honorary doctoral degree was conferred on
Croatian President Franjo Tudjman by the University of Ankara on
Thursday for Tudjman's scholarly work in the field of history,
philosophy and international relations.
Tudjman was awarded the honorary degree also for his efforts aimed
at the development of political and cultural relations between
Croatia and Turkey as well as for his contribution to the
international peace.

President Tudjman has been on a state visit to Turkey since
Wednesday.
I accept this high award as the proof of the respect for my, more
than 40-year-long, scholarly work. I also accept it as the
confirmation of the joint endeavours of the Croatian and Turkish
peoples and their statesmen to nourish friendly relations and build
bridges of the permanent cooperation between our countries,
Tudjman said.
He recalled long historical ties between the two nations adding
that Croatia and Turkey have a lot in common from the similar stands
conditioned by geo-strategic positions to the mutual interest in
promoting national interests and maintaining peace.
Tudjman added that Croatia is now to make new efforts in the
development of democracy, society, economy and in admittance to
European integration processes. He called on Turkey to cooperate in
this field.
Before the ceremony at Ankara University, President Tudjman laid a
wreath in the mausoleum of Kemal Ataturk, the founding father of the
modern Turkey.
