ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - An association of Croatian electronic media
journalists, Forum 21, on Monday issued a statement protesting
against the crude bad-mouthing of Croatian Television (HTV)
journalists on the part of parliament representatives.
Forum 21 said obstructing journalists in their work was in truth a
denial of the public's right to be informed. Informed citizens are a
fundamental precondition for strengthening democracy, the
statement said.
Last week, MPs Ivan Jakovcic of the Istrian Democratic Assembly and
Ivan Milas of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union "crudely
offended" HTV journalists Iva Gacic and Mislav Bago, who were doing
their work, the statement said.
Jakovcic called Gacic "trash" in front of other reporters in a
parliament corridor, while later stating he was not referring to
her, but her employer, HTV.
Milas accused Bago of being an incorrect reporter who made
politicians he liked look clever in his features, while making
those he disliked look like fools. Milas also said he knew who had
brought Bago to HTV and why he was acting so.
