professionally perform their police duties to be checked.
Spokeswoman for the UN mission in Sarajevo, Kelly Moore, said
Thursday that the decision on additional testing had been reached
following an exhaustive revision of the work of the local police,
performed by the International Police Task Force (IPTF).
A special IPTF team spend five days, from December 7 to 11,
investigating the work of the Stolac police to determine why
appropriate measures had not been undertaken after more than 70
incidents with returnees as victims.
What we discovered clearly speaks about a police station in
shambles: the command structure is inappropriate and susceptible
to outside influence, and crime prevention and measures undertaken
to uncover the perpetrators of crimes against returnees are far
from professional police standards, Moore said.
The UN and IPTF applaud steps undertaken against organised crime in
Stolac by the new cantonal Interior Minister, Dragan Mandic.
