ROME, Jan 15 (Hina) - Pope John Paul II received Catholic Church
officials from Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Vatican on Friday.
During the audience, the Pope expressed his opinion on the
situation in BH and the role of the Church in the region.
He expressed a wish for their enthusiasm, which had been marking the
Catholic Church in Bosnia-Herzegovina for centuries, to grow.
Continue to defend the inalienable rights of each individual and
nation as you have been doing since the very beginning of the
bloodshed, the Holy Father said.
He pointed to the unequal treatment of the three constituent
nations in BH, particularly regarding their religious and cultural
identity. He said he was acquainted with the obstacles Catholics in
central Bosnia were facing while trying to return to their homes.
The creation of unbiased conditions for the eagerly awaited return
of displaced persons and refugees to their homes remains the
primary issue to be solved and upon which a just solution to other
issues depends, the Pope concluded.
