TUDJMAN DIDN'T OFFER SDP PARTICIPATION IN GOVT RESHUFFLE - RACAN

ZAGREB, Jan 26 (Hina) - The president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ivica Racan, on Tuesday said Croatian President Franjo Tudjman did not offer SDP participation in an announced government reshuffle. "We did not talk about the reshuffle, apart from a sentence or two," Racan told reporters after his Tuesday talks with Tudjman. He added Tudjman just said Croatia would benefit from a multi-party government before election time. "I give President Tudjman credit for not making the offer neither to me personally nor to the SDP, because we wouldn't have accepted it," Racan said. He added today's talks tackled the general situation in and around Croatia. President Tudjman spoke about the dangers lurking for Croatia, the all-round danger of pushing Croatia into neo-Yugoslav integrations, Racan said. He explained the SDP was aware of the existence of such ideas, but pointed out his party believed they were not dominant in Europe and the world. Racan said he told President Tudjman there was no real danger that those ideas might be realised. Racan said he insisted during talks on the development of dialogue and tolerance on Croatia's political scene, and that he warned about the criminal aspects of restructuring and privatisation. Asked how today's talks would affect the group of six Croatian opposition parties, of which the SDP is one, Racan said he attended the talks as president of the SDP, not as a representative of the Opposition Six. He added he would be glad to see invitations for talks with Tudjman forwarded to opposition leaders who had not received them yet. Racan stressed it was not necessary for the Opposition Six to be one party because this, he believes, is the best way to disrupt them. (hina) ha jn
