Representatives of the chambers of commerce of Croatia,
Yugoslavia, Montenegro, Vojvodina and Belgrade supported the
proposal that the offices of the Croatian and Yugoslav chambers of
commerce be opened in Yugoslavia and Croatia and assessed that it
was necessary for business people to request that their respective
authorities remove all formal obstacles to cooperation.
The president of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, Nadan Vidosevic,
said one should draw up an agreement on cooperation as soon as
possible and establish in which areas the two countries' chambers
of commerce were "rivals" and in which they were not, and open their
offices.
He said that in the past 10 years the annual trade between
Yugoslavia and Croatia amounted to US$50 million at the most,
whereas in the period before that it had amounted up to one billion
dollars annually.
Vidosevic's counterpart, Drago Sofranac, expressed satisfaction
with the visit of the Croatian delegation and the great interest of
Croatian and Serbian business people in cooperation.
About 450 business people from Croatia will arrive in Belgrade
tonight. Together with some 500 Yugoslav business people they will
attend tomorrow's meeting at Belgrade's Hyatt hotel, where they are
to consider the possibility of trade and other forms of cooperation
in direct talks.
