ZAGREB, Nov 15 (Hina) - Croatian police on Wednesday morning brought nine persons, of whom five are customs officers, suspected of being involved in smuggling goods worth over 7 million kuna (DM1.84 million), before the Zagreb County
Court. Another 11 citizens are suspected of smuggling, of whom one is on the run, a Zagreb police representative told reporters Wednesday. The police said a number of customs officers on several international border crossings were smuggling textile, shoes, costume jewellery and technical goods, which entered Croatia declared as transit goods. However, customs officers at other border crossings would issue fake documents confirming that the goods had left the country while in reality they remained in Croatia. Most of the smuggled goods came from Italy. The police are searching for the warehouses where the goods were loaded.(hina) it jn
