ZAGREB, Oct 13 (Hina) - The Commission of Article 11, in charge of
supervision of the 1995 Erdut agreement's implementation, on
Monday called on the Croatian Government and the population in the
Croatian Danube River area to deplore all who advocate intolerance
and hatred, which have been expressed in provocative posters and
other destructive media.
The Article 11 Commission has expressed belief that war crimes must
be processed in line with the existent agreements and democratic
standards of the fair procedure and rule of law.
The politicising of the processing of war crimes based on the notion
about the collective guilt, revenge or other motives, must be
discarded at any price and because of promotion of justice. It
(politicising) must be rejected also because of a threat it poses to
return and reconciliation, read a statement released by the
Commission in Zagreb on Monday.
The Article 11 Commission, together with a Croatian Deputy Prime
Minister, Zeljka Antunovic, on Monday toured eastern towns of Beli
Manastir and Erdut on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the
conclusion of the Erdut Agreement on reintegration of (then Serb-
controlled) Danube River Area into Croatia.
The Commission has established that improvement has been done in
refugee returns, the statement read.
However, it has expressed concern that there are some obstacle on
the path toward the full, particularly economic, recovery of the
area.
The Commission applauds the continued improvement of security
circumstances in the area.
