The Ministry said in a statement the EC commissioner for
agriculture and fishing, Franz Fischler, and Pankretic had held
talks on a programme of reform of Croatia's agriculture policy,
adjustments to the EU policy and the part of the agreement on
stabilisation and association concerning agriculture.
According to EC decisions, Croatia will as of November 1 have the
right of export of all products into European Union countries,
apart from veal, wine and canned food for which quota had been
determined.
However, Minister Pankretic had expressed wish that the agreement
on stabilisation and association increase quotas for the mentioned
products, especially canned fish, the Ministry said.
Fischler requested Croatia's support, within the World Trade
Organisation, to stances advocated by the EU through the Club of
multifuncion friends.
Pankretic showed interest in the initiative and voiced his support
to it.
For Croatia agriculture is more than just producing food. It also
includes the preservation of the environment and tradition,
Pankretic said.
The talks also focused on the CARDS programme of EU's assistance to
Croatia, and the granting of a deed of donation of 50 million euro to
Croatia for the year 2001.
