ZAGREB, Sept 4 (Hina) - Asked to comment on some ministers' varying
opinions on a projection of economic growth over the next two years,
Croatia's Prime Minister Ivica Racan said on Tuesday that instead
of debating growth rates, Croatia should work towards finding the
best solutions and development incentives.
Some ministers and economy experts have criticised the 3-4 percent
economic growth rate the Finance Ministry has suggested in its
projection, saying it is too modest. Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac
responded to the criticism at yesterday's press conference by once
again outlining the arguments backing the projection.
Prime Minister Racan and his closest associates today visited the
ministries of finance and maritime affairs, transportation and
connections as part of visiting all ministries this and next week.
Later today, he should visit the Justice, Government, and Local
Self-Government Ministry.
The prime minister told reporters the talks at the Finance Ministry
addressed introducing more financial order in the state, fighting
crime and those making a good living on smuggling and tax evasion.
After visiting the Maritime Affairs, Transportation and
Communications Ministry, Racan announced reforms in railways,
maritime affairs, and harbours. Since we lack funds to build
everything we would like to, we need clear priorities for road
building, he said.
