ZAGREB, Aug 17 (Hina) - The United States Embassy in Zagreb said on Thursday two U.S. Navy ships for amphibious operations, USS Saipan and USS Austin, and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit would visit the southern Croatian ports of
Dubrovnik and Split August 19-24. These are the lead ships in the USS Saipan Amphibious Readiness Group ("ARG"), which is the amphibious/landing component of U.S. forces deployed in Europe. Military and local officials are expected to visit the ships during their stay in Croatia. Sport and social events are planned. The ships will be opened for visits by the general public on Sunday and Monday, August 20-21. With a scheduled follow-on visit the following week to Split by the USS Ashland, this series of visits will constitute the first ever visit to Croatia by a full ARG.
