ZAGREB, Aug 24 (Hina) - The American Naval Ship USS Ashland will visit Split 25-31 August as the third and final member of the USS Saipan Amphibious Readiness Group (ARG) to visit Croatia this month, the US Embassy in Zagreb said in a
statement on Thursday. The visits to Croatia this month by the USS Ashland, Austin, Saipan and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit are significant because they constitute the first visit to Croatia by a full U.S. ARG. The USS Ashland was commissioned in 1992. The 186-metre long ship carries a crew of over 700 sailors and marines, including female crew members. The Ashland is deployed in the Mediterranean Theatre with the Saipan ARG under the Command of United States Sixth Fleet.
