ROVINJ, Sept 1 (Hina) - This year's tourist season has exceeded all
expectations. Political changes had a positive effect leading to
the improvement of the situation in Croatia's tourism. The interest
is stirred up and activities of foreign tour operators are also
intensified, Croatian Tourism Minister Pave Zupan Ruskovic said on
Friday.
She expressed this assessment at a plenary session which Croatian
tourist workers, representatives of travel agencies and officials
of the Croatian Board of Tourism held in the northern seaside town
of Rovinj.
Analysing the course of the tourist season they suggested that it
would be necessary to prolong the tourist season. They also
considered preparations for next year.
Minister Zupan Ruskovic voiced her belief that the zero rate of the
Value Added Tax (VAT) for the organised arrivals of guests from
abroad would be of great benefit for Croatia's tourism.
She announced the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development
(HBOR) and other banks as well would reschedule their loans granted
in tourism.
Some of biggest problems which tourist trade is faced with at local
levels are bad roads, a cut in accommodation capacities, a lack of
space at parking lots and inadequate border crossings between
Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and between Croatia and
Montenegro.
