LATEST REPORT ON WILDFIRES, SITUATION STILL CRITICAL IN DUBROVNIK AREA

ZAGREB, Aug 27 (Hina) - Croatia's national information centre reported new data on wildfires it gathered by 10.30 am Sunday: The situation in Dubrovnik-Neretva County was critical. A fire in the Dubrovnik area consumed over 400 hectares of coniferous forests and the underbrush. A blaze near Slano was sweeping towards Trsteno and threatened houses. A fire on the peninsula of Peljesac was active near Prepratno. It was spreading towards the cove of Prepratno and a nearby tourist camp on one side and it was raging towards the hamlet of Zuljani on the other side. This blaze burnt over 300 hectares of soil. As regards Split-Dalmatia county, the fire near Lokva-Rogozica-Ruskamen was re-ignited last night. It consumed over 1,000 hectares of pine forests and macchia. A fire near Oborje-Duboka Draga was active and consumed about 500 hectares. A wildfire which broke out yesterday near Vrgorac was spreading. It

It was sweeping towards the canyon of the Krka river and the Roski Falls. A blaze in the area of Ervenik was still active burning some 3,000 hectares of grass and macchia. There were a few minor fires in this county on Sunday morning. A fire on Promina was contained. It had devastated the 2,000- hectare-large area covered by coniferous forests and macchia. The information centre reported two major wildfires in Zadar county. They together burnt 1,250 hectares of soil. In Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, a fire which erupted near Bribir, between the towns of Crkvenica and Novi Vinodolski, on Sunday morning, was not totally brought under control later on.
