INFORMATION CENTRE REPORTS ON SOME FIRES IN COASTAL AREAS

ZAGREB, Aug 24 (Hina) - The National Information Centre on Thursday evening informed about the situation in six Croatian coastal counties concerning fires. A fire which broke out at Hill Sibenica near Metkovic (Dubrovnik- Neretva County) two days ago, was contained and mostly extinguished today. It burnt over 400 hectares. In Sibenik-Knin County, a fire which erupted in Promina on 18 August and burnt over 2,000 hectares of grass, and coniferous trees has been under control since 03.00 pm today. In Zadar County, a fire near Gracac has not yet been contained. It is spreading over an inaccessible area, but so far no major damage has been done. In Lika-Senj County, a fire near Vratnik which was put out last night, re-erupted at about 11.00 am today. Owing to this blaze, the Senj-Zuta Lokva road has been closed for traffic since 02.29 pm. The traffic is directed via Karlobag. A fire which started on 19 August near Rudopolje was finally contained. It burnt huge areas of deciduous and coniferous forests and low plant cover. A fire which broke out near Rijeka (Primorje-Gorski Kotar County) at about 09.00 pm Wednesday has been under control since 01.00 pm Thursday.
