SPLIT, Aug 24 (Hina) - The fire in Zrnovnica, outside Split, which has been blazing for two days, claimed one life on Thursday afternoon. The victim was a 18-year old boy who was not engaged in attempts to put the fire out but who
approached the site out of curiosity. He was taken to the hospital but his injuries were so serious that he died and even his parents could not immediately identify him, owing to such burns. All over Split-Dalmatia County over 30 fires are burning. Most of them are taking place around the city of Split. Split Mayor Ivan Skaric has appealed on citizens to help exhausted fire-fighters to bring the fire in Zrnovnica under control. He has also asked for fire-fighting planes. Firefighters have described the situation in Zrnovnica as very dramatic. The blaze is threatening to consume residential areas. Besides, the fire in Seget Gornji (between Split and Trogir) has burnt over 1,200 hectares of forest

fire-fighters to bring the fire in Zrnovnica under control. He has
also asked for fire-fighting planes.

Besides, the fire in Seget Gornji (between Split and Trogir) has
burnt over 1,200 hectares of forest and field and has come very
close to the hotel "Medena".
A fire which broke out at Lokva Rogoznica near Omis has burnt one
car.
Preparations have been made for possible evacuation of tourists
from camps in Seget Vranjic and Rogoznica
The state of natural disaster has been declared in the fire-
stricken towns and municipalities of the southern Croatian county,
which this year experienced the highest number of fires in the last
50 years.
County Prefect Branimir Luksic and Split Mayor Ivan Skaric called
on citizens to help firefighters in putting out the fires and the
police in discovering arson.
