BRINJE, July 21 (Hina) - Commenting on his visit to Lika-Senj County
on Friday, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said that during his
talks with county and local authorities he had been acquainted with
problems of this Croatian region and with their possible
solutions.
The economy of Lika is neglected partly owing to the consequences of
war and partly owing to the wrong model of privatisation, Mesic
assessed.
He said "various adventurers became owners of economic plants and
premises, took loans on that basis and subsequently they just
vanished. What left behind them are abandoned plants, jobless
workers and penniless Lika."
Now all of this should be redressed by the revision of the ownership
transformation, but most what we can do is to create Croatia as a
stable zone where investments (from abroad) can pour into, the
Croatian President suggested.
He commented on a very interesting and feasible project he heard of
in the town of Brinje. This is about the production of bottled
mineral water and the project can employ a significant number of
workers, Croatian President added.
