GOSPIC, July 21 (Hina) - Croatian President Stipe Mesic on Friday visited Gospic, central Croatia, where he and Lika-Senj County prefect Anto Frkovic discussed the region's difficult economic situation. County officials said the
damage of last decade's war was estimated at over eight billion kuna (US$964 million), and acquainted the President with possibilities of enhancing agricultural production and advancing tourism to boost local economy. Prefect Frkovic pointed to the significance of building a highway across the Like region, claiming the county, given its specific location, should receive special care as Croatia's islands. President Mesic will attend an inaugurating session of Gospic's City Council and City Government, and the unveiling of a monument to Homeland War soldiers killed in the defence of Gospic.
