SPLIT, PUTS ENTIRE AREA IN BLACKOUT SPLIT, July 9 (Hina) - A large fire broke out in the Mravinci area, an eastern suburb of Split, southern Croatia, shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday. Carried by a strong wind, the fire is spreading to
surrounding areas. The whole towns of Split, Solin, and Stobrec, as well as many villages along the Adriatic Highway and in the hinterland of Split and Solin have been without electricity since 4 p.m. due to the spreading fire and difficulties in putting it out. The county Information Centre says the fire has also caused a standstill in traffic on the Adriatic Highway near Stobrec and to Solin. The fire, which has caught the thick pine-wood, is coming closer to Mravinci's houses. Unofficial sources say some local houses have been evacuated. A fire-fighter was injured and transferred to the Split hospital.(hina) ha jn
