NEW YORK, June 4 (Hina) - The United Nations' General Assembly will start a special session called "Women 2000: Equality Between Sexes, Development and Peace" on June 5. The 5-9 June session, which is to draw about 15,000 participants
from all over the world, should consider the status and position of women and the progress achieved since the world conference on women, held in Beijing in September 1995. A Croatian Deputy Prime Minister, Zeljka Antunovic, will fly to New York on Sunday to attend the session. She will head a 10-member Croatian delegation which includes representatives of a few ministries, women's associations and groups and female unionists. On Monday, the session is to be opened by the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. A Croatian Deputy Prime Minister, Zeljka Antunovic, will fly to New
York on Sunday to attend the session. She will head a 10-member

During her stay at East River, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister
Antunovic will sign an additional protocol of the Convention on
elimination of all forms of discrimination against women. The
protocol has so far been signed by 36 UN member-country but only two
have ratified it.
During their participation in this session, Croatian
representatives will also hold bilateral meetings and talks with UN
Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, and Annan's special
advisor, Angel King.
Besides the special session of the General Assembly, several forums
of non-governmental organisations are to take place in New York on
this topic at the same time.
