GENERAL ELECTIONS IN BOSNIA ANNOUNCED FOR AUTUMN

SARAJEVO, May 7 (Hina) - The steering committee of the council for the implementation of the Dayton Agreement decided general elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina should take place this autumn, the Office of the High Representative to the country said in a statement Sunday. The recommendation about the elections has been made although authorities in Bosnia-Herzegovina had not fulfilled expectations and adopted a permanent electoral law. The Permanent Council f the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) should make a decision on the issue this month. The steering committee holds the elections should be held under provisions of the temporary electoral law, supplemented with drafts of a permanent electoral law. Political directors of steering committee member countries' foreign ministries concluded with regret that the issue of the functioning of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Council of Ministers has not yet been resolved. Responsibility for this is primarily on legislative authorities, but also bodies whose task is to appoint a chairperson who should be capable of fulfilling obligations of such a function, the statement said.
