ZAGREB, April 25 (Hina) - Former finance minister Borislav Skegro
on Tuesday refuted reports in the media about his talks with the
late president Franjo Tudjman on the transferral of money from
Croatia abroad before parliamentary elections.
The media reported the President's Office had, at the request of the
interior Ministry, submitted a transcript and audio tapes of a talk
held in October 1999 between Skegro and Tudjman, where Skegro was
explaining US$100 million had been transferred to an Irish bank,
which were to be used with the aim of the Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ) winning the elections.
Stressing this was about "stupidity and fabrications", Skegro told
a news conference at the HDZ main secretariat. He called on
President Stipe Mesic on whomever he gave the audio tape to to
publish it, as well as a true transcript of the meeting, in which the
date and time of the talk was stated.
Until this happens I have nothing to comment on, he said, adding if
the transcript and the tape were not issued by Friday, he would go
public with details on insinuations of President Mesic.
