WORKING GROUP ON EQUALITY OF SEXES ENDS MEETING

ZAGREB, April 26 (Hina) - We are successfully implementing all projects we initiated under the patronage of the Stability Pact in countries of the South East of Europe, chairwoman of the Working Group on the Equality of Sexes, Sonja Lokar, said after a meeting Wednesday. This was the second regional meeting of the Working Group on the Equality of Sexes, which was organised as part of the Stability pact by the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Zagreb. The Working group has received support for four projects at the recent donor's conference held in Brussels. The first project is a media campaign which would convince the public of the countries in the region that the participation of women in political decision making was very necessary. The second project relates to concrete assistance to women entering the elections. The third is the building of firm national mechanisms which would help women have true equal opportunity in all areas of work and life. The fourth project pertains to amendments to electoral legislatures which would enable women to more quickly win positions in authority, such as the setting of quota on party lists. (hina) lml jn
