Both the House of Representatives and the Senate will discuss the resolution which, if adopted, has to be certified by President Bill Clinton. The U.S. advocate the advancement of relations with Croatia in economy, politics, and military ties, and see Croatia as a loyal partner in South and Central Europe, says the resolution. The chairman of the Committee on International relations, Benjamin Gillman, during debate said Croatia's new government deserved and needed support. Michael Gesd confirmed the State Department supported the resolution and welcomed Croatia as a political partner, pointing out the U.S. diplomacy clearly and resolutely supported Croatia's access to the WTO and Partnership for Peace.
