WASHINGTON, May 4 (Hina) - The United States Congress' Committee on
International Affairs on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution
voicing support to Croatia's access to NATO's Partnership for Peace
programme and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The draft resolution was submitted by congressman George
Radanovich, who explained why the U.S government should insist on
Croatia's joining the NATO programme and the WTO.
It is great news for Croatia, Radanovich told Voice of America,
adding he believed Croatia's cooperation with the U.S. during last
year's Kosovo conflict and this year's free and fair elections in
Croatia had been crucial.
Both the House of Representatives and the Senate will discuss the
resolution which, if adopted, has to be certified by President Bill
Clinton.
The U.S. advocate the advancement of relations with Croatia in
economy, politics, and military ties, and see Croatia as a loyal
partner in South and Central Europe, says the resolution.
The chairman of the Committee on International relations, Benjamin
Gillman, during debate said Croatia's new government deserved and
needed support. Michael Gesd confirmed the State Department
supported the resolution and welcomed Croatia as a political
partner, pointing out the U.S. diplomacy clearly and resolutely
supported Croatia's access to the WTO and Partnership for Peace.
