ZAGREB, March 17 (Hina) - Croatian National Sabor President Zlatko
Tomcic and Doris Pack, a representative in the European Parliament
and president of the European Parliament's delegation for South-
East Europe, discussed Croatia's drawing closer to the European
Union and the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina in Zagreb on Friday.
This is Pack's first visit to Zagreb after the recent parliamentary
and presidential elections in Croatia. The European Parliament
official arrived at Tomcic's invitation.
After the meeting, Pack said the purpose of her official visit was
to demonstrate her wish for the two sides to build together an
European Croatia so that the country could be admitted to the EU
very soon. Pack also stressed the importance of parliament in this
process.
"It was my personal wish to show also in this way the new direction
of the Croatian government and the government's and the state's
strategic commitment to cooperate with the EU and European
countries," Tomcic said, adding Croatia's cooperation with the
European Parliament would be of great help in preparations for the
country's admission to the EU.
"What we have heard is encouraging, as is the support of Mrs Pack,
who is a true friend of Croatia; I believe we will be successful in
the process of Croatia's drawing closer to the EU," the Sabor
President said.
The two officials also discussed the situation in neighbouring
Bosnia-Herzegovina and agreed that the current state of division
into Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina was
unnatural. They also agreed that granting the constituent quality
to Bosnia's three peoples on the entire territory and Bosnia's
cantonisation would be the final solution to the problem.
