ZAGREB, March 15 (Hina) - Mirko Galic confirmed in Zagreb on Wednesday his official candidacy for the post of Croatian Radio Television (HRT) director after he accepted an offer to take over the post by Prime Minister Ivica Racan,
i.e. the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the strongest party in the ruling coalition. Galic made this statement following a meeting with Croatian President Stipe Mesic. Galic hoped the proposal would be adopted by consensus among the parties of the ruling coalition and at the Sabor. Asked about personnel changes on HRT, Galic said he still could not speak about that as he first had to gain insight into HRT's operation, but added that he had sought and been granted the freedom to make those changes. The Croatian National Sabor must confirm Galic's candidacy, at government's proposal, and this would probably happen at the next parliamentary session.(hina) rml
