CROATIAN JOURNALISTS WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN DRAWING UP OF HRT LAW

ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - The Croatian Journalists' Society (HND) wishes to partake in the drafting of a bill on the Croatian Radio and Television (HRT), HND president Dragutin Lucic, said Wednesday. The HND is asking of the Government that the framework of the HRT law be submitted to the HND, Lucic said at Wednesday's round table conference. The HND holds that its representatives should be in the future HRT Council. The society also holds that, as a professional association, it can provide opinions about motioned members for the Council, as well as on candidates for directors of the television and radio, and editor candidates, Lucic said. President of the association of electronic media reporters Forum 21, Damir Matkovic, said the Forum advocated a "dismantling" of the HRT, that is the separating of transmitters and connections into a separate company, and for the separating of the radio and television into two public companies. In line with recommendations of the Council of Europe and the European Union, the Forum advocates the privatisation of the third channel, for the regionalisation of the television and the introduction of the National HTV Council.
