ASSOCIATION OF BOSNIAN CROAT JOURNALISTS ON TURNED OFF TV STATION

MOSTAR, Feb 18 (Hina) - The Association of Croatian Journalists in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday voiced its disappointment over yesterday's turning off of leading Bosnian Croat television station "Erotel's" transmitters. The Mostar-based station's transmitters were turned off by engineers of the Independent Media Commission (IMC), whose official Dieter Loraine said yesterday "Erotel" would no longer be granted a broadcasting permit. Assessing IMC's act as hasty and unjust, the Bosnian Croat journalists' association said in a statement the turning off of "Erotel's" transmitters confirmed a "wrong direction" had been taken in regulating media space in Bosnia, a direction, the association said, which substituted progress and the respect of the basic rights of all peoples and residents in Bosnia with bans. The association says "Erotel's" journalists and staff have been brought in an unenviable position, and that they only seek the right to work and report in the Croatian language. The association believes international officials will soon realise a mistake has been made, and that it will be eliminated. (hina) ha
