CRO RADIO DEMANDS ITS TRANSFORMATION INTO PUBLIC RADIO

ZAGREB, Feb 24 (Hina) - Employees of the Croatian Radio (HR) started an initiative for the transformation of the HR into a public radio, advocating the drafting of a legal framework which would, on the basis of laws and practice in the European Union, determine the place and the role of the HR in the Croatian Radio Television (HRT) and the overall Croatian radio broadcast, HR employees reported on Thursday. HR employees demanded to be able to participate in the drawing of a new law on public radio and television, which would include necessary measures for the protection and the promotion of public radio. The new law should ensure a legal framework which would contribute to the freedom of research and regulate issues of political and financial independence of the HR, and ensure the independence of a body managing public radio within the HRT, and which would work in line with regulations of the Council of Europe, read a HR statement. HR employees also demanded the drawing of a strategy for technology, personnel and programme development, including the implementation of new technologies and services, read the statement.
